U.S. hotel outlook. Phocuswright reports that U.S. hotel room revenue rose 1% in 2025 to $207.9 B, but occupancy fell to 62.3% — the first occupancy decline since 2020. 2026 is projected for measured growth, with revenue expected to lift roughly +3%.
FIFA World Cup 2026 surge. Canada-bound flight bookings are up +44%. Host cities (New York, Dallas, Houston) are already seeing material demand boosts, while non-host cities are absorbing spillover demand as travelers seek value alternatives outside the headline markets.
Experience economy. Consumers are prioritising experiential spending this summer. The solo travel segment is on a structural rise — projected to reach $1 trillion globally by 2033.

Brand expansion. Hilton Garden Inn Bengaluru (211 keys) and the St. Regis Costa Mujeres Resort (Cancun) opened. Hilton also launched “Undergraduate by Hilton”, a new upper-midscale brand purpose-built for U.S. college towns.
Strategic moves. IHG today announced a significant share buyback. Braemar Hotels & Resorts is divesting luxury assets to settle termination fees with Ashford Inc.
Regional relief. Ireland cut its hospitality VAT to 9%, effective July 1. Sabah (Malaysia) is seeking diesel subsidies for tour operators to manage rising operating costs.
