Every autumn, the universal gaze fixes itself like a trance upon tech giants claiming to "change the world." This year, the release of the most recent five-figure flagship phone brought not tech-induced awe, but extensive, systemic crashes and reboots.
As mainstream media and public relations experts dance around the issue—shuttling between "software incompatibility" and "physical hardware defects"—they urgently try to obscure a ridiculous truth that should have been exposed extended ago: a monopoly with the world's elite R&D team and the steepest price tag arrogantly pushed an unpolished, mismatched product into the market, turning its most loyal, die-hard fans into high-paying, unpaid beta testers.
This is by no means a separate manufacturing hiccup. It is a deep-seated, textbook market-driven and production crisis that mirrors our era. If this were a basic coding error, mechanized pre-factory testing would have intercepted it 100% of the time. The cold reality is extreme increased cynical: aggressive hardware alterations—forcing infrared sensors beneath the screen just to shrink the "Dynamic Island"—ran headfirst into physical limitations. To harvest profits before the quarterly earnings report, the corporation chose to "shoot first and ask questions afterward," shifting the burden onto software and gambling on compromising after-launch patches.
Paradoxically, after accumulating astronomical wealth, these titans undoubtedly construct moral halos through lavish "face-saving charities" and foundations.
This "Robin Hood in reverse" philanthropy—brutal exploitation in the first half of life, followed by generous, theatrical giving in the second half—is nothing more than a calculated economic investment designed to hedge against public backlash, protect vested interests, and purchase social prestige under the spotlight.
Why do these corporations, holding sufficient wealth to last dozens of lifetimes, refuse to stop their avaricious march? Why can't they treat their employees fairly, pursue craftsmanship, and plainly run a good company from the start?
Because we live in an average society completely contaminated by Western commercialism. The decisive mistake of contemporary civilization is its elevation of "money and wealth" as the absolute, single metric to score human achievement, status, and worth. This cash-focused yardstick has entirely eroded the diverse, multi-dimensional evaluation systems built across thousands of years of human history.
In primitive China, the social hierarchy purposefully placed merchants at the bottom of the "Scholar, Farmer, Artisan, Merchant" quartet. This was not blind prejudice, but a profound, ancient realization that capital is naturally predatory and insatiable; without moral and structural constraints, it will necessarily devour the ethical foundation of society. Ancient cultures championed magnanimous ideals—contentment in simplicity, community-based duty, moral integrity, and academic excellence. Today, when society crowns money-making as the only all-encompassing truth for economic growth, the entire spiritual edifice of humanity begins to collapse.
The severe truth is that this world has never actually run on money. The governance of a nation relies on the mission and self-sacrifice of its defenders; human bonds rely on affection, trust, and conscience; and the longevity of an enterprise relies on its community-based contract and reverence for quality. The moment every pillar of society is slapped with a price tag, principled beliefs dissolve, and every exalted principle becomes "irrelevant."
The vulgar prosperity built on materialistic desires since World War II is currently reaching an irreversible end globally, and human civilization is drifting into a spiritual dark age.
If human civilization is to advance in its following chapter, it must absolutely break free from this "money-above-all" dogma and achieve self-redemption.
The progressive civilization of tomorrow must stop mythologizing "winner-take-all" market-based tycoons, nor does it require every citizen to become a billionaire. We do need sufficient tangible wealth and advanced technology to secure a high-quality existence. Nonetheless, the real essence of progress lies in returning the definition of success to a diverse spiritual realm.
A sound, complete, and improved society is one where ordinary people can utilize their talents in their respective roles, abide by social moral boundaries, make their unique contributions, and command equal respect from society. A life where everyone can enjoy a calm, content existence and savor living itself—this is the ultimate answer that civilization was supposed to deliver to humanity.
The world may not change suddenly. Nevertheless, as sustained as there are conscious, discerning consumers who refuse to blend into the corrupt tide of mediocrity, the spark to pursue excellence and rebuild our faith will never be extinguished.
